Volunteer Opportunities

If you would like to help with the rummage sale, here are some ways you can get involved:

Give us your stuff: We are in need of donations of all kinds-clothes, furniture, movies, books, household items–we’ll take just about anything you’d like to give. We just ask that clothes be clean and folded, and maybe even sorted by type (women, men, kids, baby). If you’ve got something big, let us know. We can arrange for pick up.

Help with set-up on Thursdays: We need volunteers to help set-up, fold, clean, price, and more August 26, September 2, and September 9 at Ryan & Jamie’s house (get directions). Let us know if you’d like to help!

Help at the rummage: If you’re more of the rummage sale type, think about helping with the rummage on Saturday. We need people to run the register, help customers, sell food, and keep things in order. You can volunteer for just a few hours or the whole day. Things usually start around 7:00am and last until 4:00.

All proceeds from the spring and fall rummage sales go toward service and community projects at Dialogue.

Invest & Invite

The concept of “evangelism” is somewhat of a hot button issue in our culture today. We’ve all be approached by someone on the street with a tract about getting saved or at least walked past the guys with the sandwich boards about damnation on the street. These are often the things that come to mind when we talk about evangelism.

What does it really mean to witness? How are we to tell our story of redemption and meet others where they are in their spiritual journey? What does it mean to invest in those around us and then invite them into this conversation at Dialogue?

Frank Lloyd Wright was just a dude.

Well, he was more like a dude who built buildings. I’m sorry. Let me be more specific—he was a dude that built some of the most influential and innovative buildings in modern architecture. Even if you’ve never heard of him, you already know him. His houses, office buildings, churches, museums, stain glass, and artistic and visual concepts have influenced most art and architecture created in the last 100 years.

From his early homes in Chicago to the Guggenheim in New York to his later desert houses in Arizona, Wright’s style of extreme detail paired with his emphasis on the relationship between what was indoors and out changed the way we live forever.

Not to mention, he was also crazy.
There is a story about a family that built a Wright house in Chicago, and after moving in, invited him over for dinner. Wright was so upset about the changes the family had made to the arrangement of the furniture, he spent most of the evening realigning the chairs to the dining room table and the placement of lamps on end tables.

To Wright, the smallest of details, the way the sofa sat under a window, were apart of his overall design. He believed even the head of a screw or a pane of glass was significant and valuable.

What are these small things?

These seemingly insignificant details of life that we often miss? What kind of impact would these details make if only we stopped to take a closer look? God is the Details is a series about examining these small things, looking a little closer, to see the significance and the value in what we’ve never seen before.

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

Around every corner, it seems we are presented with something new to decide. Sometimes, it’s whether or not a few more cookies would be ok or watching another episode of “The Office” sounds like a good idea. But most of the time, we are up against choices that seem difficult, unclear, or nearly impossible.

Over the next few weeks at Dialogue, we will be talking about making decisions, the large and the small. Meet us Sunday mornings at 10:37am at Forest Park in Muncie and join the conversation.

Going Back into the City

This week at Dialogue to celebrate Palm Sunday, we talked about Paul’s experience with the people in Lystra in the book of Acts. What compelled them to go back into the city? How can we embrace this crazy purpose we are called to in this same way?

Listen Online

Remember Lot’s Wife

Obedience. It’s a topic that often gets a bad rap. Whether it makes you think of dog training or discipline, it seems that we need a real redefinition of what obedience means and how we can apply it to our lives and relationships with God.

What is Lent anyways?

Lent is the 40 (or so) days preceding Easter. Lent is representative of the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness as described in the books of Matthew, Mark, and Luke in the New Testament in the Bible. It’s celebrated as a time of reflection and fasting to prepare for Easter. Read more about Lent.

Churches all over the world celebrate Lent in many, many different ways. Some fast or give up something for the entire 40 days, like soda, candy, Facebook, etc. Others spend the time in reflection and worship to prepare for Easter.
